Bill Walter was born in Newcastle and educated in Sydney. He is the son and nephew of Orthopaedic surgeons, and is both a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Bill is an internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon, furthering his education in the US at University of California and the Hospital for Special Surgery NY.
Bill performs hip and knee replacement surgery and hip and knee arthroscopy surgery. He is dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome for every patient, using the most effective surgical techniques and technologies, so that each patient can get back to the activities they most enjoy.
Surgeries:
- Hip arthroscopy surgery (diagnostic, chondroplasty and labral repair)
- Hip replacement surgery (THR) using anterior or posterior surgical approach, resurfacing hip replacement and revision hip replacement surgery
- Knee arthroscopy surgery (diagnostic, chondroplasty and meniscectomy)
- Knee replacement, including uni-compartmental knee replacement (uni-knee, partial), or total knee replacement surgery.
Bill employs a variety of techniques to optimize patient outcomes including computer navigation, minimally invasive surgery, locally targeted pain control, early mobilization and rapid recovery.
Bill’s research is published in peer reviewed international arthroplasty journals; he is often invited to present his findings at international scientific orthopaedic conferences as a member of faculty and as a member of the expert panel.
He completed a PhD of Surgery in 2006 at University of NSW and was appointed as Associate Professor in 2009 at the University of Notre Dame. Bill currently supervises 2 PhD students, a Masters student and medical students.
In 2012 Bill was the President of the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty and hosted the annual meeting in Sydney where other scientific papers were presented, on topics such as robotics and technology in Orthopaedic Surgery.
Bill served as Chairman of the department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Mater Hospital from 2011 to 2014.
He has given many presentations at orthopaedic conferences in Australia and throughout the world and has more than 67 publications in major Scientific Journals and book chapters.
Bill has been elected to become President of the International Society of Orthopaedic Centres in 2016. He will host this prestigious international meeting in Sydney in 2017.
His love of science has become a major part of his career.
